For over 30 years, Waitomo Papakainga has helped build resilience amongst our whanau of Te Hiku o Te Ika. Led by the Rawiri whanau, Waitomo Papakainga has provided a platform for reconnecting our whanau to their cultural identities and realising their own leadership capacities.
Tikanga Marae is a natural progression for our people. At Waitomo Papakāinga, we are building the leadership capacity of our whanau to be able to confidently deliver important roles on our Marae. We hope to utilise these associated art forms to develop meaningful connections to ira atua and the taiao. Individuals and whanau will learn how to self-manage their mana motuhake and will be empowered to thrive, live healthy lifestyles and set positive examples for intergenerational health and wealth.
Kua roa te wā mātou e para ana i tēnei huarahi, arā noa atu nga akoranga me ngā hua kua puta mai. Heoi anō, kei konei tonu mātou e waihanga ana i nga huarahi hōu, e whai māramatanga ai o mātou whanau o Te Hiku o Te Ika. Ka noho mai nga wawata o nga mātua tūpuna hei tūāpapa mo o mātou mahi katoa.
